Image by jvoves via FlickrNew York-based VC Fred Wilson makes an excellet point about the details of Obama's economic fix-it plan versus the stated purpose of Obama's candidacy.
He argues that Obama's leadership is more important than the fine print of the stimulus program, especially given that the economic models that everyone is using are likely to be anachronistic.I had dinner last night with some friends, all of whom were big supporters of Obama and his vision of change. All of us were at least a little (and in some cases a lot) concerned that in the transition from candidate to President, Obama was getting sucked into conventional thinking. Spending a trillion dollars may work, but helping change the DNA of america and the world would help a lot more. And he doesn't need economists to tell him how to do that.

I too worry about the "getting sucked in" part. I also wonder about what will be the inevitable "first controversy" that starts that spiral which is part media feeding frenzy and part Republicans chomping at the bit for an opportunity.
To master the TV/Media age and opinions and counteropinions, attacks, political correctness, blogging, youtubing etc is a feat unto itself and all of that has very little do with the true well-being of this country ofcourse. More like an accepted post-modern pseudo-world that all of us agree to play in.
Anyway at very least it's very gratifying having someone you respect in the highest office of the land. Something sorely missed in the last 8yrs. If nothing else this is the very important fundamental change for me.
Although Bush gaffs on "Great Presidential Speeches" on Letterman will definitely be missed:)
